Equipment Data Plates - Find your Make, Model and Serial Number
Forklifts, sweeper/scrubers, aerial lifts, and other material handling equipment, have Equipment Data Plates (also called equipment name plates), which contain critical information about a machine. The information on a data plate, particularly make, model and serial number, is crucial for determining the correct parts to buy and is helpful when requesting service for the unit.
Finding Your Data Plate
Data plate locations vary by manufacturer and equipment type, but they are generally found in easy-to-find spots, such as:
- Near user controls (on/off switch, steering, handles, throttle, or seat).
- In the battery compartment (batteries and motors have separate labels).
- Underneath the machine's controls on walk-behind units.
- Near the seat or below the steering wheel on ride-on units.
- On the base of burnishers and buffers.
What is on your data plate
While it varies, data plates typically display:
- Manufacturer information (Make)
- Model Number
- Serial Number
- Production Date
- Voltage/Amps
- Fuel Type
- Load Capacity/Weight Limit
- Safety warnings
Note on Format: Not all data plates are physical metal plates; some are just stickers, but they contain the same essential information.
